In a special edition of the Fast Five, we get to know more about the minds behind the marketing with a profile on SunRice VP, Marketing, International & Global Sourcing, Tamara Howe, who joined the team in 2022.
Tell us about what you do at SunRice: My role spans North America, EMEA, the Pacific, and Asia, with a core focus on driving growth through a deep understanding of consumer needs and shaping behaviour. By solving real needs and building our brands consistently, we can deliver sustainable long-term growth.
A great example is our upcoming launch of ready-to-heat rice in the Middle East. We’ve crafted culturally relevant recipes like Kabsa and Biryani to meet the needs of younger consumers seeking quick, convenient meal solutions that resonate with their food heritage. By anchoring the launch under our trusted SunRice brand, we're not only tapping into a growth category but also connecting with the next generation of consumers.
What’s the best part of your role in the International Marketing Team? The opportunity to make impact. SunRice is supportive of new and bold ideas, so if you have the passion and can-do energy for a great idea, the support is there to make it happen. I also really enjoy working across our diverse markets and every day is a new challenge which means you’re always learning and growing.
If you were a SunRice product, which one would you be and why? SunRice Protein Chips – they’re innovative and unique!
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you? I got deep into weightlifting several years ago getting up to lifting more than 100kg (deadlift). I gave it up after injuring my back unfortunately.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Situational leadership – which is a flexible leadership model to adapt your style according to the readiness, and capability or experience of the individual. This has been a helpful framework for me as I’ve led different functions and teams across different markets.
Bonus question: What do customers say to you most often about our Australian rice? High quality, trusted.
