We partner with communities to enrich lives socially and economically, leveraging our expertise wherever we operate
Our commitment to future generations
Our success depends on sustaining the health of the fields and the communities in which we operate around the globe. We are committed to making a positive impact on the world. We are immensely proud of our community engagement initiatives that help sustain and improve lives in the communities in which we operate.
This means that SunRice needs to be there for our communities and over the last 70 years we have built strong connections with hundreds of community organisations supporting them in what they do best.
We sustain places. We sustain lives. We make a difference every day.

We continue to support Australian communities to help build resilience
Wherever we operate, SunRice supports local organisations and events to help build resilience in our communities, with over 150 organisations supported in 2019. In Australia we have a long time national partnership with Foodbank. As an active participant, SunRice donates rice food products to Foodbank Australia, who in turn provide food to a network of non-profit welfare agencies which prepare meals and provide food relief for the poor and hungry throughout the country.

We make a difference in the Solomon Islands
In the Solomon Islands, every year we provide approximately A$100,000to local community engagement partnerships that support activities aimed at improving the quality of life for a wide range of communities across the region.
SolRice, the trusted SunRice brand in the Solomon Islands, and its partners the Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs, and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, won the 2019 Australian Government Gender Equality Good Practice Award.
Through this partnership and with SolRice’s extensive distribution network, valuable information on family violence resources was distributed via pamphlets attached to SolRice bags across the Solomon Islands, and for the first time, the information is expected to reach the furthest and most remote villages of the Solomon Islands.
SolRice is also a major supporter through fundraising and supplying all
rice needs free of charge to Seif Ples, a shelter for women, with contact details for their services available on our products.
We are proud of our contributions to the health and well-being of Solomon Islanders, through our quality vitamin enriched product as well as our financial and in-kind contributions to community. This includes our long term commitment to improving literacy, a major issue in a country with an illiteracy rate of 87%. For four years we’ve supported READSI, a not-for-profit organisation that provides volunteer teachers, small libraries, books and pamphlets to villages across the country.
As well as our many other community supported programs such as the annual Rotary Fun Run, a major national event that encourages healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle; our partnerships with non- government organisations (NGOs) such as Red Cross, support our communities in times of natural disaster.

See MoreSustainable communities - enriching lives in Papua New Guinea
SunRice’s subsidiary business in Papua New Guinea (PNG), Trukai Industries Ltd, plays a proactive role in the local community, helping to address key domestic violence and health issues.
To support efforts combating family and sexual violence against women and children, Trukai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with local service provider Femili PNG. This support assists survivors of family violence, through education (including training of Trukai employees), awareness, financial support and monthly donations of Trukai product to support Femili PNG clients in safe houses.
Since opening its Family and Sexual Violence Case Management Centre in 2014, Femili PNG has helped more than 1,000 women and children in high-risk situations, supporting them through the court system and assisting in their return to their village of origin, away from violent perpetrators.
Trukai TruCare - healthy living, healthy eating, health awareness
Through its TruCare program, Trukai invests in healthy living and healthy eating opportunities to improve the lives of Papua New Guineans. Trukai continues to support a number of local charities with six long term partners currently receiving donations of product. The monthly rice donations, of approximately 300 kilograms, are part of the TruCare program and are shared between Femili PNG, Manalos Aviation and the Kaugere Clinic in Port Moresby who support patients with tuberculosis, a major health problem in the country.
We support rural health care in Morobe Province, partnering with Lae based helicopter company Manalos Aviation to provide medivacs for patients in the region. This includes supporting mothers needing medical attention and those experiencing birth complications in remote Papua New Guinea. This partnership also provide monthly Truaki product donations and in 2019 we donated four mobile ultrasound scanners to Manalos Aviation to help with pre- diagnosis for women.
See MoreTrukai has been donating 40,000 kilograms of Roots Medium Grain per month to the Kaugere Clinic to help with their tuberculosis program for the past two years.
The Kaugere Clinic is renowned for its health services for the majority of the population in the nation’s capital, and our rice supply is vital for the clinic’s drug-resistant and multi drug-resistant patients. The clinic’s Dr Patrick Kilowan prefers to use our Roots Medium Grain as part of the patients’ diets while they are on medication, saying:
“It is a great choice for our drug-resistant patients because of its nutritional value and that it's vitamin enriched. It helps the patients to eat well and complete their medication. The patients are receptive of the incentive and it’s always a wonderful feeling to see our patients recover and live their normal lives. We are truly grateful to Trukai Industries for the monthly rice supply that we have received from them since 2017.”
