Gluten Free

Gluten is a protein found in some grain-based foods, including wheat, rye, barley, triticale and possibly oats.

Some people unfortunately have an immune (allergic) reaction to gluten which causes damage to the lining of the small intestine.

This damage reduces the ability of the intestine to absorb nutrients, like vitamins and minerals, leading to nutrient deficiencies.

An  intolerance to gluten in the diet is managed by avoiding all foods and beverages containing gluten.

Dietary management in this way protects the lining of the small intestine from damage and helps to ensure nutrients are properly absorbed.

The good news for people suffering this condition is that plain rice, in its various forms (e.g. white & brown rice – short, medium and long grain) is gluten free. Rice can be used in numerous ways to create gluten free savory meals, tasty snacks and scrumptious desserts.

Many rice snacks, like rice cakes and rice crackers are gluten free too. The gluten free varieties of SunRice Rice Cakes are easy to identify – simply look for the ‘Gluten Free’ claim on-pack.
