Medium grain rice produces tender and moist grains when cooked, which have a greater tendency to stick together. SunRice short grain rice has a soft, sticky texture and glossy appearance when cooked, and is the stickiest variety that SunRice produces. White medium and short grain rice is obtained from the milling of paddy rice varieties. Brown medium grain rice is the result of dehulling certain varieties to obtain light brown coloured grains with a pleasant aroma. All SunRice medium and short grain rice varieties are grown in the southwest NSW irrigation areas.
Opus
Opus is a short grain rice obtained from the milling of opus variety paddy. The grains after milling have a white to cream colour and an aroma characteristic of white rice.
Koshihikari
Koshihikari is a short grain rice obtained from the milling of specially selected Koshihikari variety paddy. The grains after milling have a creamy off-white colour and a sweet characteristic aroma. Koshihikari rice has a soft texture when cooked.
Sunwhite
White rice obtained from the milling of medium grain paddy rice varieties. The grains after milling have a creamy off-white colour and a sweet characteristic aroma.
Sunbrown
Brown rice obtained from the dehulling of medium grain paddy rice varieties. The grains after hulling have a light brown colour and a characteristic pleasant aroma.
Arborio
Arborio white rice is obtained from the milling of medium grain arborio paddy rice. The grains after milling have an off-white colour, and a characteristic flavour and aroma.
